Lenny Dykstra: Has the Former Mets Star Officially Lost His Mind?

May 12th, 2011

Lenny Dykstra Is In Trouble With the Government, and He's Not Too Happy About It

It's about time someone finally shut down Lenny Dykstra.

For years, there have been whispers about his business dealings and how they weren't exactly on the up-and-up.

Dykstra denied all of these charges against him, but it was clear that he wasn't exactly the nicest guy to deal with. But now, the government is on to Dykstra and he's in some hot water as he goes through legal proceedings.

The former Mets and Phillies star has been charged with bankruptcy fraud and he's lashing out at the government.

Per the New York Daily News:

Dykstra said the government's case against him is the real fraud.

"It's an egregious abuse of power," he said outside court. "I have attempted to work with the trustee to pay the creditors, but they weren't interested."

"Everything I had was taken from me, ripped apart to line their pockets," he said.

Dykstra was arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto last month as part of a separate sting conducted by Los Angeles Police.

The Los Angeles District Attorney asked for more investigation, so the broke baller was handed over to the FBI after several days bouncing from jail to jail.

His lawyer said he was "caged" like an animal.

"All they've done is make me want to fight harder," Dykstra said.

Sorry Len, but this is all she wrote.

I do appreciate the irony of him complaining that he's being swindled out of all he owns since he's been accused of credit card fraud, not paying rent and other unflattering business practices. This is someone who has been trying to act like a big shot for years when he doesn't have anything to back it up and sooner or later, those type of people have a fall from grace.

I highly doubt anyone's buying Dykstra's story and I can't see anyone feeling sorry for the man with the way he behaves.

This is a man who got naked while interviewing a possible assistant and asked for a massage. This isn't someone with a classy reputation and a lot of credibility at the moment.

Brett Favre: Favre Reiterates His Intention To Retire, Should We Believe Him?

May 12th, 2011

Brett Favre Is Still Saying That He Is Done With Football

The NFL may be in a lockout, but that doesn't mean it will stop reporters from being asking Brett Favre what his plans are for 2011. To his credit, he still insists that he is done playing football forever.

From the Associated Press (via Yahoo.com):

Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre says he has no intention of coming out of retirement.

Favre said he was “done with football” when asked Wednesday if he might attempt another comeback. Favre, a spokesman for Wrangler jeans, met with employees at a Wrangler plant that was destroyed by recent tornadoes that devastated the region.

--snip--

When he first stepped out of his vehicle, he was greeted by Marion County Commission President Don Barnwell, who asked him if he was going to play football this year.

Must Read: 10 New Careers Favre Should Consider In Retirement

While I hate the questions being asked, it's a product of Favre's constant waffling on the issue. To his credit, he hasn't backed off his stance that he is retired. I don't expect him to play football again because this past season took such a toll on his body both physically and mentally that he can't get back into it.

Favre has no reason to come back, there's nothing that he can do with one more year that will change our perception of him. He is still one of the great quarterbacks in NFL history, and nothing that he does is going to change that. However, fans and sports bettors are very keen to bet on NFL and Favre. He is the spokesperson of the online betting site TwinSpires. He has spoken about what people can expect when they bet on the site.

How to bet on NFL games?

The NFL is one of the most popular betting events in the US. You can visit https://www.basketballinsiders.com/gambling-sites/ to know which the sportsbooks that you can trust are. Every week people from all corners of the world study statistics and trends to win bets from different sportsbooks offering NFL markets. The most common bets on NFL are moneyline bets, total, and point spread.

Point spread refers to a figure provided by odds experts with bookies to give an advantage/disadvantage depending on expected victory margin or defeat for a team. Totals refer to the projected final score that combines scores of both teams. This is also set by odds makers depending on how they feel a game is going to unfold. To bet you must decide if the end-score will go under or over this total. Moneyline bets on the NFL refers to a situation where you choose a team that you think will win. This is a straight-up bet.

Besides these main betting types, there are NFL Futures which are placed on events in the future. For instance, bettors often place bets on a team which they think will be winners of the Super Bowl. NFL prop bets refer to games within a game that bettors engage in. Parlays are when you make many picks such as point spread, totals, and moneyline in different games through a single ticket. Teaser bets let you adjust point spreads in bettors’ favor. Live betting lets you place bets on football games after they have started.

2011 NBA Mock Draft: Markieff Morris Fits Best on the Indiana Pacers

2011 NBA Mock Draft: Markieff Morris Fits Best on the Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are in a pretty good position to build upon a decent 2010-11 campaign. They’ll be shedding some big contracts to get fresh contracts from New York, freeing up a large amount of money for free agency (if it ever happens).

Before that occurs, the Pacers will be looking for a big to help fill out their roster. With Jeff Foster and Josh McRoberts headed for free agency, the defensive powerhouse Markieff Morris should be a worthy addition.

2011 NBA Draft: Updates on Jimmer Fredette, Kemba Walker, Mocks, Trades and More

Morris won’t be a star like his brother has the ability to turn out to be, but he will be a serviceable player. He shoots a high-percentage shot, tracks down rebounds and plays big.

There still are some questions about his ability to consistently put up offensive numbers, but with Danny Granger and an emerging Tyler Hansborough already on the Pacers roster, Morris won’t need to be an impact player offensively.

Jake Peavy Makes Return for Chicago White Sox

May 12th, 2011

Jake Peavy returned to the mound for the White Sox after battling shoulder tendinitis in spring training returning from a torn latissimus dorsi muscle in his back. His final line of four runs allowed on seven hits and four strikeouts looks pedestrian, but getting back on the mound was a huge step for the White Sox.

One of the more impressive aspects Peavy's start was his excellent control. Sixty-seven of his 87 pitches were for strikes (73.6 percent), and he established a first-pitch strike to 64 percent of the hitters he faced. He threw 78.1 percent of his fastballs for strikes, and 73.3 percent of his off-speed pitches (slider, curveball and changeups) were for strikes. He also displayed above average command of his cutter throwing it for a strike at a 62.5 percent rate.

Peavy displayed decent velocity in last night's start. He averaged 90.8 mph on his 41 fastballs (maxing out at 93.3 mph), which is only small drop from the 91.1 mph he averaged last season. He should gain some more velocity as he builds up more arm strength over the course of the season.

His slider lacked the same horizontal movement that it had shown in previous seasons by averaging a 1.64 in horizontal break compared to 2.9 in 2010. However, there was an extra inch in average downward movement. Peavy only recorded a 6.9 swinging strike percentage, but it is too early to scrutinize that number. Peavy's GB/FB ratio of 1.14 also represents a somewhat strong showing.

The White Sox are planning to go with a six man rotation, which will benefit Peavy's recovery over the long run and the I expect Peavy to take Humber's spot in the rotation because Humber's xFIP of 4.10 shows that he is likely to regress.

While the final line may not look very impressive, the White Sox organization was just happy to see Peavy back on the mound.

2011 NHL Playoffs: San Jose Sharks Showing Their True Colors?

May 12th, 2011

After dropping three straight games with a 3-0 series lead, one has to wonder if the 2011 San Jose Sharks are the same old crew of disappointing postseason performers.

Just when it appears that San Jose has turned the corner and has the ability to go the distance, they remind the hockey world that they struggle to live up to expectations.

So, what's the problem?

Perhaps it's the lack of production from the big guns. Dany Heatley has never made a name for himself in postseason play, and Joe Thornton has been a perennial disappointment in the playoffs, despite gaudy regular season statistics.

Many wanted to blame Evgeni Nabokov, and some of the criticism was certainly warranted. However, the Sharks now have a Stanley Cup winning goaltender between the pipes in Antti Niemi. The Finnish backstop may not have the sparkling statistics Nabokov did, but he possesses the ability to make a clutch stop, which was always a knock on his Russian predecessor.

The defense in front of Niemi is not the best of the West by any means. That being said, Dan Boyle is a reliable veteran presence on the blue line, and there is no reason he shouldn't be able to anchor this team to a Stanley Cup.

So what has to happen. for the Sharks to right the ship this evening? Stay tuned.
